Known for his problem solving and “fix-it skills”, Gerard spent his life helping others by fixing and redesigning things to make them better. He retired in 1988 after more than 29 years with Wisconsin Public Service. In 1978 he transferred to Crivitz to work on automating the hydro dams on the Peshtigo River flowage.

He joined Wisconsin Public Service as a Service Man and in 1971 transferred from Oconto to Marinette to work at the WPS Peaking Plant.

Gerard worked for Sears repairing washing machines and dryers and had a TV repair business as well. Gerard showed his deep love and commitment to Marion especially at the end of her life as her faithful companion and caregiver through her years with dementia. Gerard and Marion danced through life together in love for 65 years. Following their marriage, Marion and Gerard lived in Green Bay, Oconto, Marinette, and Crivitz. Gerard married Marion Huven on July 27, 1946. He continued in the reserves and was later called back to oversee installation and operation of electronic equipment at the armory in Green Bay. He was an instructor at Treasure Island and Navy Pier Chicago until his honorable discharge in 1946. Gerard joined the US Navy after high school and went through radio training primary school (Texas A&M) and secondary school (Treasure Island) followed by instructor training.

During high school, his hobby was amateur (ham) radios and that hobby turned out to be very useful to support local communities as a communication tool under US Government direction during WWII. He graduated from Oconto High School in 1942. 1, 1924, in Oconto, the son of the late Mary Ella and Allan Wilde. Gerard Rolland Wilde, our beloved father, died peacefully at home Thursday, Jat the age of 98 with his family around him.
